Your social battery

You don't have as much to give as others. How to read, plan and protect your energy — without locking yourself away.

Signs your battery is running low

  • You go quiet and retreat inside your head
  • Small irritations suddenly become huge
  • You can't think about what to say anymore
  • Recognising the pattern is already half the solution

Preparation

Check your battery before you leave

Already tired? Then the evening starts at 30% instead of 80%. Adjust your expectations.

Plan recovery time afterwards

No errands, no cleaning, no phone calls. The next day is yours.

Choose what gives you energy

A walk with one friend costs less than a group dinner. Choose consciously.

During social moments

  • It's okay to go to the bathroom and do nothing for five minutes
  • You don't have to talk all evening — being present is enough
  • When you notice you're done: leave. Not in an hour. Now.
  • Being present doesn't mean being performative

Recovery

Give yourself at least as much recovery time as the activity lasted

Three hours with friends? Plan three hours of silence afterwards. Minimum.

Do something that calms your senses

Headphones on, lights low, comfort show on. Whatever works for you.
